Moving it Forward: Automation in Transportation
You have probably heard it mentioned that an increased focus on automated processes and technologies may play a key role in the development of the global economy in the near future, as a recent study published in the Economist found that nearly half of all jobs are vulnerable to automation over the next decade or two. While the advent of automated driving technology may help transform the trucking and transportation industry in the decades to come, it is clear that these autonomous trucks will not be ready to handle all of the driving tasks needed to haul a load the entirety of its journey from origin to destination anytime soon. Instead, many researchers who are currently developing these technologies envision and are working to build a future where automated trucks and human drivers work together in order to transport freight more safely and efficiently than ever before.
