When you think truck driver, do you normally think of a big burley, macho man in a male dominated industry? In an industry desperate for new drivers, this stereotypical image doesn’t help attract women to the trucking industry.
In efforts to ease the truck driver shortage, a lot of companies are looking into hiring more women. In attempts to draw more women into the industry, job recruitment campaigns are in the works which include: highlighting the industries salaries (boosting the pay!) and updating fleets with larger sleeper cabs. Other efforts to attracting women to the transportation industry are that truck stops are working on cleaner and safer terminals, and more schedules are guaranteeing home time.
