Keeping it Fresh: Hours of Service

Transportation has a major impact on our daily lives. We as brokers in the transportation industry understand this, but does the average consumer?

Over regulation impacts many facets of transportation, for example: driver shortages, driving hours, and new costs. On July 1st, 2013 the new Hours of Service (HOS) went into effect, which impacted overnight trips over eight hours and the 34 hour restart. Steve Niswander, chairman of ATRI’s Research Advisory Committee, said in a statement that “We know that the 34-hour restart changes are going to have a significant impact on our operations and across the entire supply chain.” This change was supposed to prevent fatigue-related accidents caused by overworked drivers.
