There are many perks with buying locally grown produce.  Nationally, the average distance produce travels is 1500 miles.  Local food, on the other hand, travels substantially fewer miles (100-mile radius on average), which saves on economy/businesses energy costs and valuable non-renewable resources.  Another perk is that local produce conserves energy (gas, road/car maintenance, paper for reporting) used for transport.  It is also very nutritious because it is delivered for immediate use by the consumer, direct from the farms in which it is grown.
