There are many perks with buying locally grown produce. Nationally, the average distance produce travels is 1500 miles. Local food, on the other hand, travels substantially fewer miles (100-mile radius on average), which saves on economy/businesses energy costs and valuable non-renewable resources. Another perk is that local produce conserves energy (gas, road/car maintenance, paper for reporting) used for transport.
