Moving It Forward: Longshoreman Strike Averted

International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) contracts are currently at issue with the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX).  USMX would like to limit the amount of money paid to ILA members by placing a cap on the money collected in any given contract year.  Monies are collected on a per ton basis on containerized cargo that is handled by ILA laborers.  Each ton garners $4.85 and is applied to the health care fund of it’s members.  Their current reserve is $800 million.
